What Do We Call The Registered Certificates Offered At TVET Colleges
Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges play an important role in equipping students with practical skills and industry-relevant knowledge. These institutions focus on preparing learners for specific trades, occupations, or careers at various levels, from artisan to technician and even middle management. One of the most important aspects of studying at a TVET college is the opportunity to earn registered certificates that are officially recognized both nationally and, in some cases, internationally.
The registered certificates provided at TVET colleges in South Africa fall under different categories, the most common being the National Certificate (Vocational), commonly referred to as NC(V), and the NATED (National Accredited Technical Education Diploma) or Report 191 programmes. These qualifications are quality-assured and registered on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF), which means they are formally recognized by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) and the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
Each of these certificates is mapped to meet the needs of various industries, from engineering and hospitality to business management and information technology. What makes them particularly valuable is their focus on both theoretical knowledge and hands-on practical training. This dual approach ensures that students are job-ready by the time they complete their studies.
