What Are The Requirements for TVET College 2026?
As more students begin to survey alternative pathways to traditional university education, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges are becoming an increasingly popular option in South Africa and beyond. These institutions provide practical, career-focused training in fields such as engineering, business, hospitality, agriculture, information technology, and more. With a strong emphasis on equipping students with the skills needed for the workplace, TVET colleges serve as a bridge between education and employment. But before applying, it is important to understand the entry requirements to ensure a smooth application process.
By 2026, the general entry requirements for most TVET colleges are expected to remain consistent with current standards, although there may be slight updates or improvements. Usually, students need to have completed at least Grade 9 to qualify for National Certificate (Vocational) programmes, also known as NC(V). For NATED or Report 191 programmes, a minimum of a Grade 12 certificate may be required, depending on the course level. Additionally, some courses may require specific subjects, such as Mathematics or Physical Science, especially in technical or engineering-related fields.
Besides academic qualifications, applicants should also prepare supporting documents like certified copies of their ID, academic transcripts, and proof of residence. It is also worth noting that certain colleges may have their own specific entry criteria or conduct placement tests to assess a student’s readiness for a particular programme.
