National Certificate Vocational (NCV)

The National Certificate Vocational (NCV) offers programmes of study in a variety of vocational fields. The programmes are intended to directly respond to the priority skills demands of the South African economy.

The national certificate is offered at levels 2, 3, and 4 of the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) and is designed to provide both theory and practical experience in a particular vocational field. The practical component of the study may be offered in the workplace or in a simulated workplace environment at the College.

Admission Requirements for Flavius Mareka TVET College

Below are the admission requirements needed for applying online at Flavius Mareka TVET College:

  • A year-end school report for Gr 9 or higher; OR
  • NQF Level 1 Qualification (Form 2/ABET 4)
  • Preference will be given to grade 11 learners
  • A placement test is compulsory for new L2 students to enable the College to refer a learner to a suitable program
  • Compliance with the minimum requirements for the specific program as indicated.
  • Preference will be given to learners with the highest performance.
  • Due to the availability of space, admission is not guaranteed even if the placement test is passed.
  • For NCV programmes, the following pass symbols are applicable:
  • 50% in examinations for Vocational subjects
  • 40% in examinations for Languages and Life Orientation, and 30% for Maths or Maths Literacy.

NATED / Report 191

NATED / Report 191 programmes are delivered under the auspices of the Department of Higher Education and Training and quality assured by Umalusi. The programmes consist of 18 months of theoretical studies at colleges and 18 months of relevant practical application in workplaces. Engineering studies range from N1 – N6 while Business and Utility Studies range from N4 – N6

Duration

  • 1 Year for N1 – N3 Engineering Studies
  • 1 Year for N4 – N6 Engineering Studies
  • 3 Years (18 months theoretical studies + 18 months’ workplace application) for N4 – N6 Business and Utility Studies

Qualification

  • N6 Diploma
  • Grade 9 (Part-time) and Failed Grade 12 (full-time) for N1 admission
  • Grade 12 for N4 admission
