Who is Eligible To Apply for NSFAS when it opens for 2026

Below are they who qualify to apply for NSFAS:

• Be a South African citizen
• The combined annual income of your household is less than R350 000;
• You were awarded a grant by SASSA.
• You are enrolling in a report 191 or National Certificate Vocational program at a TVET institution, or you are registering for your first undergraduate degree at a public university.
• You want to enroll in a public university or TVET college to pursue a degree.
• You already registered for college, and the annual income of your household is less than R122 000;
• You have completed Grades 9 and 10 to qualify for NSFAS funding to attend a TVET college; you have completed Grade 12 to qualify for NSFAS funding to attend a university.

What Are The Required Documents For NSFAS Applications 2026

The following papers must be in certified copy form and cannot be older than three months. Your documentation needs to be certified by the South African Police Service or the South African Post Office. This also applies if you are under the age of 18 or over the age of 18 but STILL DEPENDENT on the joint household income of your parents or guardians:

• a certified copy of your South African ID or birth certificate. If you are under 16 years old and do not have a green bar-coded ID or smart ID card, you must show a certified copy of your unabridged birth certificate.
• IDs for the parents or guardians (death certificate)
• IDs for the parents or guardian (and a death certificate if applicable).
• a certified copy of your most recent transcript or set of test results. (If you’re currently in Grade 12, you don’t have to turn this in.)
• records from the university’s registrar (if applicable)
• travel and lodging documentation (if applicable)
• Download the consent form, complete it, and have each applicant who has declared income sign it.
• If you have a disability, download and complete the Disability Annexure A Form.

WHAT DOES NSFAS COVER FOR TVET COLLEGE STUDENTS FOR 2026

The NSFAS funds cover the following for TVET College students:

• Accommodation in an urban area R24,000 per annum
• Accommodation in a peri-urban area R18,900 per annum
• Accommodation in a rural area R15,750 per annum
• Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7,350 per annum
• Transport R7000 per annum
• Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per annum

How Can Tvet College Students Apply for Nsfas In 2026

Follow the guide below to apply for NSFAS:

Create a new myNSFAS account or make changes to an existing one.

• Activate the “myNSFAS” tab.
• Choose “Register.”
• To allow NSFAS to verify your information, check the appropriate box.
• Then fill out the form with your ID number exactly as it appears on your South African Identity Document (ID)
• Using your ID number as a guide, enter your entire name and last name.
• Please enter your current email address.
• Verify the accuracy of your email.
• Type in your cell phone number.
• Choose a password.
• Check the password,
• Send the image of your ID
• Choose “Register.”
• The provided email address and mobile phone number will receive an OTP (this OTP expires after 24 hours)
• Type the OTP in and click “Submit.”
• You have now finished the re-registration process.
• Click the APPLY tab to be directed to the online application form.
