Fet And Tvet Colleges
Fet And Tvet Colleges: Now known as Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges, what was previously called FET colleges provide education for those who choose not to attend a traditional university. Offering courses in a wide variety of fields, TVET or FET colleges focus on providing education and training to students in marketable and practical skills to allow them to qualify to do a myriad of jobs. TVET or FET colleges offer a popular alternative to university studies for students who were not accepted to study for a degree and are of great import in South Africa. The number of TVET colleges is increasing rapidly, providing students with marketable skills and the ability to do essential jobs. This is how TVET or FET colleges will change the lives of hundreds of thousands of South Africans.
TVET colleges were introduced to South Africa in 2012 and there are now 50 TVET colleges which operate on around 364 campuses spread across the rural and urban areas of South Africa. Public TVET Colleges are established and operated under the authority of the Continuing Education and Training Act 16 of 2006 and resort under the Department of Higher Education and Training. All of the previously existing FET (Further Education Training) colleges changed their names to TVET colleges under the management of the DHET (Department of Higher Education and Training). Prospective college students can receive their skills-focused National Certificate Vocational by completing skills training programmes at these college campuses.
