The Department of Higher Education and Training oversees Maluti TVET College, a Technical Vocational Education and Training institution. Umalusi and numerous Sector Education and Training Authorities accredit the college (SETAs)
According to Presidential Minute No. 690 of July 6, 2009, the Department of Higher Education and Training was formally established by law, and the concurrent duties under the FET Colleges Act of 2008 were transferred to the Minister of Higher Education & Training under Proclamation No. 44 of July 1, 2009.
Public TVET Colleges, Public Universities, National Institutes of Higher Education, Trade Testing Centers, Skills Development Institutes, and SETAs are all part of the Department of Higher Education and Training.
FET Colleges are at the centre of South Africa’s skills development dilemma because of the objective of the 50 public TVET Colleges to steadily grow enrollment and training in priority and important skill areas.
