In South Africa, grade 8th students are students who are between the ages of thirteen to fourteen and are currently in the first year of high school. Unfortunately, Tvet colleges in South Africa do not accept grade 8th holders but rather grade 9. According to the South African Government and as part of the Higher Education system, TVET Colleges accept students who have completed Grades 9, 10, 11 or 12 at the high school level. 8th-grade students are advised to keep learning the course they are interested in with more seriousness which will eventually prepare them to take more complex programmes at the higher educational level.
TVET colleges are training students for careers in the dynamic, international economy with a focus on employability. Students are given the necessary skills by the curriculum to compete worldwide in the economy of the future, where technology is ever-evolving. To give them the skills that the industry will need, TVET students receive training in a variety of subjects.
Students are taught everything from the fundamentals to more complex courses, including engineering, computer technology, business management, and finance. They are given the opportunity to start their own businesses in addition to helping them find employment.

Applicants will need the following when applying to a Tvet college:
South African Citizens
- A certified copy of your ID
- Latest school results
- Proof of Residence
- Valid Email Address
International Students
- Certified copies of passport
- SAQA-approved foreign qualifications
- Proof of medical insurance or cover
- Valid study permit

Tvet colleges that are open for the 2026 academic year are still accepting applications, to apply, follow the process provided:
- To obtain an application form, go to the college’s website.
- Fill in the blanks.
- Choose a course that corresponds to your qualifications.
- Provide all necessary documentation, such as a valid identification card, certified results, or a certificate.
- Where relevant, provide identification of parents and/or guardians, as well as a death certificate.
