Athlone is one of The College of Cape Town’s eight campuses. Previously known as Athlone Technical College, it was founded as a technical college to serve the Cape Flats until merging with three other technical schools to become The College of Cape Town in 2002. The Athlone campus is located where ‘the two ladies of Athlone’ (the renowned Athlone cooling towers) stood before they were dismantled in 2010. The campus features four fully equipped Automotive and Skills workshops, as well as accreditation in Automotive Motor Mechanics Training and Trade Testing. Athlone is primarily a Mechanical Engineering campus, with all accessible study choices focusing on Motor Mechanics.

College of Cape Application Requirements 2026
- Grade 9 is all that is required for several of these courses.
- Minimum requirement: passed grade 9/ABET Level 4 with good marks
- Duration three years full time
