Placement Test For Tvet Colleges: Colleges and universities use different types of placement exams to test skills and effectively enter students into appropriate classes. Finding out which kind of test you’re going to face should be your first step. Once you’ve identified the test you’re going to take, you should find out what kind of questions you’ll need to answer, the length of the exam, if it is timed or untimed and if you’re allowed to bring any study aids with you.
Placement Tests were developed by the College Board to provide information on your Reading, Sentence Skills, and Arithmetic skill level. Minimum skills are necessary for success in college. By assessing your ability levels in these areas, we can determine which of our English, Mathematics, and Reading Courses are most appropriate for you. All applicants must test unless they have satisfactory SAT, ACT, Asset or Compass scores or transcripts (when applicable) documenting proper degrees, allowing the testing exemption.
Types of Placement Tests For Tvet Colleges Date 2026
There are usually three main placement tests. They test math, reading and writing abilities. You may need to brush up on these skills before testing time. Not all community colleges use the same placement tests. Look at the school’s website to determine which test they use. Usually, information about placement testing can be found in the Admissions section of the college’s website.

Booking period is in September 2026
- Learners who passed Grades 10, 11 and 12 are encouraged to apply.
- No previous placement results will be considered for 2026/2027 enrollment/registration.
- Learners are requested to bring 02 certified copies of the ID book/card, 02 certified copies of the latest results and an Original Proof of residence.
- Learners are encouraged to bring their own block pens for the completion of Forms.
- Due to COVID-19, the college will only be able to accommodate a limited number of learners to write the placement test on a day.
- Writing a placement test does not automatically mean that a learner has secured a space in the college. A selection process has to be considered.
Preparing for a Placement Test
You cannot fail a placement test. But you still need to study! The test determines what courses you will be placed in when you begin college. Depending on your score, you may need to take extra developmental courses or you may be able to start regular college courses right away. If you give yourself time to brush up on some of the skills on the test, you increase your chances of doing well on the test and starting in a higher-level class than you would otherwise.
Your college’s website may have test preparation information or links to other test preparation websites. You can also go to the local library and borrow a few GED test practice books in math and language arts.
What to Take with You on the Test Day
On the day of the test, you will be required to provide your social security number and a picture identification card (driver’s license). All materials needed during the test will be provided for you by CCCC. There is no cost for first-time testing.
Test Administration
You will need approximately two (2) hours to complete the tests and to speak with an admissions counsellor. The tests are administered on a personal computer. But you will not need prior
knowledge of computers to take the test. You will read the instructions and questions on 5 the computer screen and will select your answers using the computer keyboard or mouse. You will have scrap paper for working on Arithmetic problems. Relax! The Test Administrator will be available to answer any questions and assist you. The testing format is very simple.
