What Is A Nated course

When exploring the different programmes offered at TVET Colleges in South Africa, you might come across something called a NATED course. At first, this term can sound confusing, and you may start asking yourself what it actually means. NATED stands for National Accredited Technical Education Diploma, and it refers to a special type of qualification that plays an important role in skills development and career growth. These courses are not just random programmes. They are officially recognised qualifications.

They are accredited by the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) and the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). Because of this, a NATED course holds real value in the job market and can help open doors for employment or further studies. NATED courses are carefully designed by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) to meet industry standards and workplace needs. They are structured in a way that allows students to gain both theoretical knowledge in the classroom and practical experience in a real work environment.

This combination makes the qualification highly respected by employers. If you are someone who wants to study at a TVET College but also dreams of gaining a qualification that can help you secure a career, then NATED programmes might be the right option. They cover various fields such as business, engineering, and finance, offering students a pathway to build professional skills and continue their education if they choose.

Who Qualifies for a NATED Course?

To study a NATED course, you need a Matric Certificate. In the past, students with a Matric Equivalent could also apply, but that has now changed. At the moment, only students who have completed Matric can apply for NATED qualification courses.

What Is a NATED Course Equivalent To?

NATED courses are structured into three main levels, starting from N4, moving to N5, and then to N6. After completing the theory part of N6, you will also need to complete an N6 practical section (workplace training). Once both theory and practical are done, you will qualify for the N6 National Diploma, which is just one step below a Bachelor’s Degree.

How Do NATED Courses Work?

The NATED programme is designed to give you both theory and practical skills that prepare you for work. After finishing each level, you will receive a certificate as proof of your achievement. This means that even after your first course, you can already apply for jobs in your chosen field.

As you move on and complete the higher levels, your qualifications and job opportunities will also grow. Once you complete the final N6 level along with the required practical training, you will receive your diploma, giving you a strong foundation for building your career.
