How Long Does It Take To Rewrite Matric?

Many students choose to retake their matriculation exams to improve their results and gain better opportunities for further studies or careers. A matric re-write usually takes about a year to complete, but students often decide to spread it over two years. This option allows them to focus on fewer subjects at a time, making it easier to prepare thoroughly and achieve higher grades. The good news is that even if you choose to complete it over two years, you only pay for one year, which makes it both flexible and affordable.

Once you receive your final matric results, you can apply for a Matric Upgrade. It is important to apply early to secure your place, as spaces can fill up quickly. During the upgrade, you can choose to rewrite all your subjects or only the ones where you want to improve your marks. You are not limited to the same subjects you took in high school. Instead, you can select subjects that suit your career goals or boost your overall results.

To meet the requirements, you must include a Home Language, an Additional Language, and either Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy. Along with these, you can add three extra subjects of your choice. This flexibility allows you to design your studies in a way that best supports your plans. National Senior Certificate (NSC) supplementary exams – March
National Senior Certificate (NSC) progressed learners (learners who wrote the NSC the previous year but did not sit for all 6 subjects) – June
Part-time NSC candidates (learners who attempted the NSC examinations post) – November

Document needed to rewrite matric

The documents you need to apply for and take the matric rewrite exams are listed below.

You passed the tests required for graduation.
The written results of your exam.
An identification document that is a certified copy and lists your (previous) matric results.

Phone number or contact information

Can I switch my matriculating subjects?

If you plan to apply for the Matric Supplementary Exam, you cannot change your Matric subjects.
Only the subjects on which you have already written can be revised. You can apply for a Matric Upgrade if you want to switch up your Matric topics, but you can only take the Matric Upgrade Exam after you are 21 years old.

Despite the fact that this is the case, if you are under the age of 21, you can still register and start preparing well in advance to receive the best outcome!

Application Procedures For A Matric Rewrite

You must bring a copy of your ID, as well as your matriculation certificate or statement of results, to register.
